I try to give back when I can, whether it’s through a soup kitchen or a $1.00 donation, and one organization I have always admired is Locks of Love. So, when I had heard about our LIFT program organizing a Locks of Love day I was eager to participate for this great cause. At first I was nervous to cut off ten inches of hair, but then I thought that ten inches of hair isn’t so much if you have it to give. First off, hair grows back. Second, what I can give will greatly benefit a child suffering from hair loss by helping to restore a sense of self confidence.
I sometimes find it difficult to volunteer on my own time, but having an opportunity to volunteer through the work place makes it easier for me to participate in these types of organizations. Giving me the opportunity through work not only helps me to give back as an individual, but enables all of us to come together as a team and promote strong relationships.
I think it’s great that we have the LIFT program within our company. It helps to provide us with these types of opportunities, and also help to make us aware of programs that we may not know of. LIFT helps to give us an experience of not only giving back to others, but to also bring us together as a company. Knowing that I have a company that provides me with these types of opportunities, and supports organizations such as Locks of Love is something that I value and feel proud to work for.
