Our passengers get to meet our great pilots, flight attendants and customer service agents on a daily basis, but there is another group of Atlantic Southeast and ExpressJet people who work hard behind the scenes to keep our fleet safe and reliable. This group, our mechanics, work in locations across the U.S. twenty-four hours a day, seven days a week. Perhaps you have seen, or even met, one of our mechanics in cities like Atlanta, Houston, Knoxville, Tenn. or Richmond, Va.

As a recruiter for our Maintenance department, I get to meet many of our new-hire mechanics as they come in for interviews and training. And recently, I’m meeting a lot of new faces because between Atlantic Southeast and ExpressJet, we are hiring mechanics for nearly all of our maintenance locations. Openings for certified A&P mechanics are available in the following locations:

  • Atlanta, Ga. (ATL)
  • Chattanooga, Tenn. (CHA)
  • Chicago, Ill. (ORD)
  • Columbia, S.C. (CAE)
  • Detroit, Mich. (DTW)
  • Memphis, Tenn. (MEM)
  • Shreveport, La. (SHV)
  • Washington, D.C. (IAD)

If you are an A&P mechanic interested in joining our team, or know someone who is, visit www.flyasa.com/careers to apply!

Atlantic Southeast and ExpressJet currently operate under separate operating certificates with the Federal Aviation Administration. Until we achieve a single operating certificate, candidates will be hired as either Atlantic Southeast Airlines or ExpressJet Airlines employees.

I have been a Facebook user since the early days of the social network (fall 2004 to be exact) when it started as a simple online profile site. Back then, there were no photo albums, videos or applications. Just basic information like your name, date of birth and home town.

Things have changed quite a bit since the early years. Now Facebook users can share pictures, play games and even make purchases without having to leave the site. Our partners at Delta Air Lines dove into the Facebook application world in August 2010 when they became the first airline to launch a tool that lets their Facebook fans book travel through the site. And if that wasn’t cool enough, Delta recently upgraded their Facebook page to allow passengers to check in for their flights! In addition, Facebook users can also check flight status and trip details, and even view their SkyMiles account balance.

Skateboards, golf clubs, antlers, bowling balls and fishing poles. Not only are these items that you are likely to find at your local sporting goods store, but they are also just a few of the items that pass through airports as checked baggage on a regular basis. With the summer months approaching, airlines will see more passengers traveling with these items, and to help your trip go off without a hitch, it is important to know what to expect before heading to the airport.

Both of our partners, Delta and United, have comprehensive baggage sections on their websites that detail exactly what passengers can bring as checked baggage. Here is a sampling of what you will find on their sites:

  • Examples of special items, including musical instruments and sporting goods, and any applicable fees that apply when traveling with these items.
  • Instructions for packing your special items.
  • Details about oversized, overweight and excess baggage.
  • Lists of items that are restricted from flight.

Words are not enough!

The drive from Las Vegas to St. George, Utah for Mini Indy was a feast for the eyes. The views were breathtaking!

It was awesome to meet the team members from both Atlantic Southeast and ExpressJet because it gave me the chance to see how kind and wonderful people in different departments are at both airlines. We had pilots, flight attendants, a crew scheduler, mechanics and more on our two teams. It quickly became obvious why their managers and peers selected them to be part of this year’s Mini Indy!

During the morning of practice on Thursday for Friday’s race, we had the ideal weather. Clear, blue skies and the perfect temperature! Just the way it should be for our teams to loop around the practice track. We spent about half the day at the practice tracks, trying out the cars and competing in the pit race qualifications. Later that evening, we attended the Mini Indy Banquet, where all of the competitors showed off their cars and enjoyed a wonderful dinner together.

After a late night at the banquet, we had to get up early for race day at the former St. George airport. Everyone was pumped to get our cars on the runway and taxiways that had been converted to a race track for the event. Our teams competed fiercely and showed their team spirit and enthusiasm, even when the wind picked up and rain began to fall!

Without a doubt, Mini Indy was a fantastic event that brought the new Atlantic Southeast and ExpressJet family together.  I had so much fun making new friends and will always remember my three days at Mini Indy.

It is truly a great honor having been chosen by my leaders as well as my peers at Atlantic Southeast to compete this week at our sister carrier SkyWest Airlines’ Mini Indy in St. George, Utah. To be able to represent our company at this yearly charity event that benefits the United Way is a great feeling. Not only will I have the privilege and thrill of competing with my peers in a go-kart race, I will also have the opportunity to meet some of our new team members from ExpressJet Airlines.

As a Washington-Dulles based First Officer for Atlantic Southeast, I am looking forward to meeting my colleagues from various departments in the company who I might otherwise not get to know. It will be a great experience to meet the people who make this Super Regional Airline what it is today.

I know I will leave Mini Indy with a great sense of pride in our accomplishments, as well as new friendships with my team members from ExpressJet and Atlantic Southeast.
