ExpressJet wants to give all of its customers a safe and comfortable trip, including your pets.
Traveling with pets can be quick and easy, but it takes advance planning. From vaccinations to pet carriers, make sure to learn and follow not just our pet policies, but also those involving other airlines for connecting flights.
Pets: Cabin Only
ExpressJet will only carry animals in the cabin. Please note that we cannot transport Pit Bulls, reptiles (including snakes), ferrets, rodents or spiders as in-cabin baggage. Only domesticated cats, dogs and household birds. Animals must be harmless, inoffensive, odorless and require no attention in flight. The crew can refuse pets at any time.
When flying with your pet:
- Make arrangements far in advance; don’t just show up with the animal. This is because only a certain number are allowed in the cabin.
- Carry your pet only in a cage or container subject to inspection and approval by airline acceptance.
- Store pets under the seat directly in front of you at all times; keeping them in the container at all time. If the pet causes a disturbance in flight it may be removed at the next stop at the Captain’s discretion.
- Ensure the animal complies with all legal, medical, cultural or other requirements in our destination city. Affix the animal’s vaccination and identification tags and bring along its documentation.
- Bring only one pet per customer, and one cat or dog per container (two birds per container). Don’t cram them in there; they must be able to stand up and turnaround comfortably or they won’t be allowed to board.
- Unaccompanied minors can’t travel with pets
- Check to make sure your pet container meets the following guidelines:
- Leak-proof
- Strong; made of wood, metal, polyethylene, fiberglass or composite (soft carriers made for that purpose are fine in-cabin)
- Ventilated on at least two sides without letting the animal protrude outside the container
- Carrier must not exceed 17L x 12W x 10H
We do charge a $50 service charge for animals that is equal to an excess baggage charge. Please note that service animals are always welcome on board, travel free and are not subject to the same rules.
